Helping renters discover more affordable housing options through enhanced search filters

Realestate.com.au has launched a new affordability filter aimed at assisting renters in finding homes within their budget. This innovative feature empowers users to effortlessly search for properties that qualify under specific rental affordability schemes, including the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).

The introduction of this filter follows realestate.com.au’s recent implementation of an accessibility filter, enhancing both the buying and renting experiences. The accessibility filter caters to users seeking properties with features such as wide doorways and step-free entry, ensuring inclusivity in housing options.

Jarrod Scott, REA Group General Manager – Product, emphasized the platform’s commitment to evolving and addressing the evolving needs of consumers. He highlighted the significance of listening to both consumers and customers, formally through surveys and informally through various channels.

Acknowledging the ongoing challenges in the national rental market and the increasing cost of living pressures, Scott underscored the importance of initiatives like the affordability filter. Designed to alleviate the stress associated with finding suitable accommodation, the filter aims to assist eligible individuals in accessing affordable housing options.

Moreover, Scott noted that the filtered search functionality provides clarity on property eligibility for rental affordability schemes, facilitating agents in handling relevant inquiries and applications more efficiently.

The recent addition of the accessibility filter further demonstrates realestate.com.au’s commitment to inclusivity. Developed in collaboration with organizations like Spinal Life Australia, this feature allows users to easily identify properties with accessible features, promoting accessibility and equal opportunity in the housing market.

Scott emphasized the continuous efforts of the group to enhance search and filter functionalities on the portal, ensuring an inclusive experience for all Australians. By striving to be the go-to platform for finding homes with ease, realestate.com.au aims to cater to the diverse needs of its users while fostering a more accessible and equitable housing landscape.
