Zillow and Redfin have introduced innovative plugins that leverage AI bot ChatGPT, revolutionizing the way users search for property listings. These plugins enable users to engage in natural language conversations with the bot to conduct their property searches. By asking specific questions about listings and desired home features like price ranges, number of bedrooms, and bathrooms, users can fine-tune their search criteria. In response, the bot provides matching listings that meet the user’s requirements.
According to David Beitel, CTO at Zillow, “Generative AI is transforming the search for information. At Zillow, we have been embracing AI and machine learning since the introduction of the Zestimate in 2006. As the first major residential real estate marketplace to incorporate advanced AI-powered search into the home shopping experience, we recognize its immense potential. We eagerly anticipate developing more technological innovations using OpenAI technology in the future.”
Currently, Zillow’s feature is accessible only to selected users granted access to ChatGPT’s plugins. OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, maintains a waitlist for those interested in gaining access, with plans to expand availability gradually. Zillow’s plugin is currently in its alpha phase, allowing the company to fine-tune specific features while gathering valuable user feedback.
Redfin also announced its plugin, aiming to enhance personalized home searches beyond what was previously achievable through its websites and apps. Ariel Dos Santos, Redfin’s VP of product, explained, “The Redfin ChatGPT plugin has the potential to simplify the home buying process by suggesting homes and neighborhoods that may have gone unnoticed using traditional map-based real estate searches. This can also help sellers reach a broader audience of serious buyers. We are just scratching the surface, and the Redfin ChatGPT plugin continues to gain power with each passing day.”
The real estate industry has witnessed a growing adoption of AI, with professionals utilizing chatbots for various tasks, including writing marketing copy and listing descriptions. OpenAI’s public release of ChatGPT last year ignited widespread interest in AI technology, leading to its application across diverse industries.
