Revolutionizing smoke alarm maintenance for enhanced safety and compliance in rental properties.
Property management software MRI Property Tree has collaborated with Australian proptech start-up Sensor Global to advance smoke alarm monitoring and compliance, introducing a groundbreaking solution to streamline the process.
Sensor Global employs IoT (Internet of Things) technology to establish an automated smoke alarm ecosystem, connecting rental property smoke alarms to the cloud. This integration enables remote management and testing, eliminating the need for physical inspections and ensuring operational efficiency.
Landlords, property managers, and tenants benefit from the innovation, as compliance with state-specific requirements, including annual testing, becomes more accessible. The traditional challenges of coordinating site visits and relying on physical inspections once a year are addressed, minimizing the risk of device failure.
Sensor’s platform offers the flexibility for remote testing at intervals set by property managers, providing convenience for tenants who can choose suitable times, ensuring a non-disruptive process. Additionally, the system monitors for any tampering with smoke alarms, automatically addressing a breach of lease terms.
The collaboration aims to address the critical issue of non-working smoke alarms contributing to fire fatalities. According to the National Coronial Information System, between 2001 and 2019, 56% of the country’s fire fatalities occurred in homes with non-operational smoke alarms.
This integration fosters peace of mind for all stakeholders, ensuring continuous smoke alarm compliance throughout the year. Notably, the Sensor cloud platform operates independently, ensuring ongoing connection even without reliance on the tenant’s Wi-Fi.
Sensor Global founder, Andrew Cox, emphasized the significance of the integration with MRI Property Tree in promoting IoT technology benefits to property managers and enhancing safety measures.
MRI’s Director of Partner Connect APAC, Steve Grubmier, acknowledged the innovative approach of Sensor Global, emphasizing the potential for further safety monitoring beyond smoke alarms.
The collaboration represents a crucial step forward in leveraging technology to enhance safety, compliance, and overall asset protection for rental properties.
