Green homes, smart choices — Domain’s new movement for responsible living

A new nationwide effort has been launched by Domain, grounded in recent findings from a comprehensive study on sustainable housing trends. This initiative encourages a move toward residences that offer not only intelligent financial choices but also significant benefits for individuals, local areas, and environmental health.

The research highlights a growing mainstream acceptance of homes designed for energy efficiency and comfort, featuring environmentally conscious components. These kinds of properties are increasingly shaping buyer behavior, raising property values, and redefining what matters most to purchasers.

To support this shift, Domain teamed up with sustainability leaders to create an online hub filled with real-life examples and simple advice. From video tours of energy-wise homes to tips on improving everyday living spaces, this resource aims to make eco-friendly home improvements practical and accessible for everyone.

Properties equipped with eco-friendly upgrades such as solar installations or smart design elements are achieving significantly higher sale prices, with some reaching increases of up to three-quarters above typical values in select markets. Homes positioned to maximize sunlight exposure have added worth nearing $375,000, while energy-saving additions like double-pane windows and solar technology contribute to notable price enhancements. Listings showcasing these green features attract considerably more attention, with nearly 14% additional interest from potential buyers. In 2025, the majority of sold homes incorporated at least one characteristic that promotes environmental responsibility or cost savings.

A noticeable transformation is unfolding as buyers increasingly prioritize tangible benefits over lofty ideals. Residences that incorporate smart energy solutions are emerging as more appealing choices, delivering cost savings and comfort that resonate across diverse communities and income brackets.

Rather than focusing on fear or urgency, the campaign seeks to equip Australians with practical knowledge and resources, blending data insights with real-world examples to help people feel confident about sustainable property choices. It’s about fostering empowerment through accessible information rather than pressure.

Domain sees its role extending beyond market analysis to actively supporting the creation of more sustainable, livable environments. Building on earlier research that explored climate-related vulnerabilities, the latest report marks a continued commitment to addressing environmental challenges. Joining initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions in marketing further demonstrates this long-term dedication.
