Allhomes has introduced a new feature allowing potential tenants to specifically search for build-to-rent (BTR) properties.
The Canberra-based listings portal owned by Domain has introduced a new feature to help users find build-to-rent (BTR) homes more easily, aiming to boost visibility for this growing rental sector.
Since BTR properties are designed to be available exclusively for rent, Allhomes argues that tenants might prefer these options for their stability in an otherwise unpredictable market.
Launched on August 1, the feature quickly started generating leads for listing administrators within an hour.
Allhomes General Manager Kaaren Lewis acknowledged that the BTR market is still emerging in Canberra. She emphasized that the platform’s goal is to support this sector by offering a dedicated way for consumers to show interest in BTR properties.
Lewis mentioned that the firm collaborated closely with the industry to develop the new feature. Input was sought from leading build-to-rent developers both locally and nationally to help shape the solution, with initial feedback proving to be extremely favorable.
Domain CEO Jason Pellegrino expressed hopes that the build-to-rent sector would grow in the Australian market, particularly following a wave of new projects announced for Melbourne and Canberra. Pellegrino noted that Canberra was seen as having the right market conditions for a dedicated build-to-rent feature, citing its higher-than-average vacancy rate and a growing, diversifying population.
For Amalgamated Property Group, the benefits of Allhomes’ new build-to-rent offering have already been evident. Daniel Potts, the group’s development manager, remarked that the feature has enabled the group to effectively highlight the unique aspects of their latest build-to-rent project. Since the launch of Oaks Canopy on Allhomes’ new platform, the group has received high-quality inquiries and built a strong waitlist for the new apartments, which will open in a few weeks.
Both Potts and Lewis expressed their hope that the feature would help educate consumers about build-to-rent as a viable housing option. Potts noted that it represents a significant step in Canberra’s—and eventually Australia’s—build-to-rent evolution, facilitating better education for renters to understand and appreciate the benefits of this housing model.
